Ankara University is the first University of the Republic of Turkey, whose foundation was laid by the great Atatürk himself to form the foundations of Atatürk’s principles and reforms, to spread and root these principles and reforms throughout the nation and to act as an indomitable defender of these values, which are the expression of modernity, science and enlightenment.
The Faculty of Languages and History-Geography started to provide education in Ankara Community Center Hall with a ceremony attended by Atatürk. (January 09th, 1936)
The Republic of Turkey was established as a result of the heroic struggle of the Great Turkish Nation, which started on May 19th, 1919 and continued for more than three years and three months under the leadership of ATATÜRK.
Our Great Leader Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK, has drawn attention to the importance of education with the principle “The Most Genuine Guide in Life is Science” and implemented studies that attach importance to all levels of education after the proclamation of the Republic.
Our Faculty of Law (1925), and our Faculty of Languages and History-Geography (1935), opened with ceremonies attended by ATATÜRK himself and initiated important breakthroughs in the field of higher education in our country. Again, our Faculty of Agriculture, which started to provide education in 1933, became one of the important higher education institutions established during the ATATÜRK period.
Ankara University was established on June 13th 1946 with the law no. 4936 enacted in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Thus, Thus, our University, which has the honor of being the First University of our Republic has become integrated with our Great Leader Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK, who laid the foundations of our country and the founder of our University.
