Message from Rector
Istanbul University, one of the most established and respected universities in the world, continues its educational, scientific research and social contribution activities with more than 500,000 students and over 10,000 academic and administrative staff, including open and distance education students. Istanbul University, which continues to achieve significant achievements in the world university rankings both on a general and field basis, remains the only Turkish university in the top 500 in the ARWU world rankings according to the “World Rankings According to Our Universities Report” prepared by URAP. When evaluated on a field basis, it achieved 100-150 degrees in dentistry and oral sciences and 401-500 in biological sciences, clinical medicine and public health and performed significantly among the top 500 universities. It is also very successful in terms of both general and field when looking at the rankings of other reputable ranking organizations (QS, THE, URAP, CWTS, NTU, RUR, US-NEWS) in the world.
Istanbul University, which contributes to turkey’s economic, political, legal and cultural development since its establishment, produces national and international scientific works and projects, does not remain indifferent to the social responsibility activities needed by the society and provides added value in this field, is one of the 11 Research Universities in Turkey that raises future generations with its entrepreneurial and innovative structure. Istanbul University, which continues its activities with awareness of the responsibility imposed by this identity, continues to work without compromising its vision and quality focus.
“Istanbul University; We have something to say to the world”
We are proud to be a University student in Istanbul with our graduates who represent our university in the best way by working in our country and in institutions and organizations around the world. The best proof of what our esteemed students can do is that turkey’s two Nobel Prize-winning intellectuals are graduates of Istanbul University. We experienced the Nobel pride we had with Orhan Pamuk, who graduated from the Faculty of Communication, once again with Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar, our Graduate of Istanbul Medical Faculty, who received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2015.
Based on the parameter “Internationalization in higher education”, we develop international projects in the field of education and research. We carry out student, academic and administrative staff exchanges through Erasmus and Mevlana exchange programs. We sign bilateral agreements with many reputable universities around the world. We currently have 705 international agreements in this context. Again, within the framework of our internationalization policy, from Bangladesh to Thailand; We host a total of 8,600 international students from 154 countries from Madagascar to Cambodia.
We will educate our students who prefer our university with the scientific, contemporary and modern education approach of Istanbul University. I believe that we will reach our goals in a short time with the support of our students, academic and administrative staff, graduates, i.e. The Great Istanbul University Family. With respect and love…
